Bushwalking
Take care on the nearby mountains of the Scenic Rim at Mt Barney Lodge (known as the McPherson Range) at this hottest part of summer. Most of the peaks – Mt Lindesay, Mt Earnest , Mt Barney and Mt Gilles are over 600m, and have a high degree of exposure to the UV extremes of the sun as they are without much shade as they are volcanic and therefore rocky and reflective by nature, have limited water reserves once the valleys and creeks are left behind, and require a commitment of 6-12 hours of walking.

The best time of year for bushwalking and mountain ascents is from Easter-October to avoid extreme heat conditions and the afternoon summer storms that can roll in unannounced. But if you are determined to get to the top of these peaks outside these times, an alpine start is best at 4am.
