World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated every year on 5 June to raise global awareness of the need to take positive environmental action. It is run by the United Nations Environment Programme .
There is now a smorgasbord of WED activities and events around Brisbane to educate and encourage personal positive environmental actions.
In 2013, Mt Barney Lodge had a display stall at the Hillbrook Anglican School World Environment Day event on Saturday June 1. Their theme this year was “Community Solutions to Global Problems” a theme that Mt Barney Lodge brings to it’s guests on an everyday basis.
At the stall, the "Connecting People With Nature" sculpture that was created from old jeans for the Mt Barney A World Apart event, got appropriately "recycled" as a climbing display to promote the minimal impact rock climbing and abseiling activities that Mt Barney Lodge is known for.
Mt Barney Lodge has also been a stallholder at the BOSS (Boonah Organisation for a Sustainable Shire) WED in Boonah since 2010. Unlike the dismembered jeans, we can’t cut ourselves in half to be at both events on the same weekend!! But once again, Mt Barney Lodge donated a significant Queenslander Homestead accommodation package prize to encourage Scenic Rim community and visitors to attend the festival and learn more about sustainability.
Keep in touch with Mt Barney Lodge on Facebook to see where we will be for the 2014 WED.
