Ecotourism - Cultural Respect & Sensitivity

Ecotourism - Culture

Mt Barney Lodge acknowledges the Aboriginal people of the Yugambeh Language Group as the original inhabitants of the area. The Yugambeh, Githabul and Jaggera people used this area as a meeting place and pathway to their lands. The wealth of Aboriginal memories that relate to the surrounding geology is passed onto our guests in the information folder in the cabins and homesteads. We verbally share Aboriginal legends and culture during story telling around the campfire on the kid’s night adventure, and during our Sunset Eco Tours.

The local Aboriginal community is Minjelha Dhagun. This is owned by Yugambeh Land Enterprises, and we have a positive link with the Board of Directors, and an excellent working relationship with Scott Hunter, the Land Manager. We are undertaking water quality testing of the local rivers and improving Glossy Black Cockatoo habitat co-operatively.
