Revolutionizing Eco-Tourism with Sustainable Solutions: Containers for Change, Mt Barney Lodge and You = Green Partnership

by | Nov 2, 2023 | Eco, News

At Mt Barney Lodge, the love we have for the natural world drives how we operate. We are dedicated to being as environmentally responsible as possible. From the laundry liquid we use to the way we source and produce our expedition meals; we are always striving to be #naturefirst.

During your stay here at Mt Barney Lodge you would have noticed that our methods of ‘rubbish’ collection is a little different from most. We have bins for compost, recycling, and general waste around our site.

We also separate all 10c recyclables. This keeps valuable resourses out of landfill, and allows them to be recycled.

We have proudly been a part of the Containers for Change program since 2020 and are so excited to announce that starting on 1st November 2023 Containers for Change will now also be accepting wine and spirit bottles!

We essentially take 3 steps to recycle our containers.

  1. We collect the containers. This is where you come in, by placing them into the 10c or recyclable bins, you are assisting us in doing our bit for our planet.
  2. The 10c recyclable containers are then returned to GDR Scrap Metals, Beaudesert, for sorting.
  3. The refund that is provided from the Containers for Change initiative is donated directly to Environmental Defenders Office using their unique deposit code #C10404476

To date, #mtbarneylodge has returned over 35,000 recyclable containers with the funds going directly to the EDO who run bold and ground-breaking environmental cases to protect our natural world, helping you and your community use the law to protect the environment, and will use the funds for challenging NSW Forest logging, NT Glencore’s McArthur River mine, Adani North Gallilee Water Scheme and Tasmanias Lake Mabena Heli-tourism in the Tasmania Wilderness World Heritage Area, just to name a few.

You can also take part in Containers for Change at home. Using an old cardboard box or a small bin, save all your cans and bottles with the 10c recyclable label (wine and spirit bottles need not have this on them until January 2027), register with Containers for Change and look up where your nearest collection/drop-off point is. This is a great way to get the kids involved in taking steps towards sustainability, and the money can be directly deposited into their bank account.

Alternatively you can do good things by directly donating to any charity group of your choice, or support the EDO as we do!!

Find out how You can also take part at home!
