Scenic Rim Adventure Festival @ Mt Barney Lodge is a weekend-long adventure festival highlighting the wide array of adventure activities that you can engage with in the Scenic Rim Region.

The festival is part of the Gondwana Festival, a month-long celebration in March 2021 of some of the most precious and spectacular areas of the Queensland section of the World Heritage-listed Gondwana Rainforests of Australia.


Scenic Rim Adventure festival 2021 is the inaugural celebration of all things eco adventure in the Scenic Rim! As part of the Gondwana Festival, Mt Barney Lodge will be hosting the weekend long adventure festival highlighting a wide array of adventurous activities that you can engage with in the Scenic Rim and Gondwana Rainforests of Australia. We are excited to present you with this program to help you make the most of your weekend at the festival.

This is a ticketed event, you must buy festival entry ticket prior to event.



Launch Dinner with Michael Groom

To launch our event we are kicking off with a special welcome dinner to kick off the festivities, inspire you to challenge yourself over the weekend and celebrate the adventurous spirit within each of us!

Womens Adventure Film Festival

Women's Adventure Film TOUR

Created by Adventure Entertainment and presented as an official part of Women’s Health Week by Jean Hailes for Women’s Health. This short film festival is a celebration of the inspiring women around us who are doing extraordinary things in the name of adventure.


Reel Rock 15

Capturing the greatest stories and sends from the year in climbing, the four new films of Reel Rock 15 deliver a joyful dose of inspiration, heart and humor. 


Mt Barney Expedition - North Ridge

Join us as we guide you up the untracked and little-used North Ridge to the North Peak of Mt Barney and return via Rocky Creek.


Mt Barney Expedition - Logan's Ridge with Michael Groom

Logan’s Ridge is the original first ascent route by white explorers. In fact it was the infamous Captain Logan in 1828 who successfully got to the top first.


Mt Barney Expedition - South East Ridge

For the more adventurous, a guided expedition up Mt Barney is the ultimate challenge and is a class 5 track. Enjoy the freedom and solitude of the World Heritage-listed Mt Barney National Park and take advantage of our experience and local knowledge.


Mt Ernest Expedition

This fantastic walk provides a different perspective on the Mt Barney Massif. With views of both East and West Peaks you really feel engulfed by the majesty of Mt Barney.


Mt Maroon Expeditions

This mountain is a mini Mt Barney, and climbing Mt Maroon at 965 meters is a half-day challenge. Most of the route is untracked and follows ridge lines and steep rocky gullies.


Beginner Rock Climb

…on REAL rock faces! Try any of our 3 climbs graded between a 6-13 … the morning is yours. Enjoy the bushwalk and spectacular views whilst you walk to the climbing site. 

Ben Southall

Ben Southall - O’Reilly’s to the Rock

Ben Southall shares the tales of his pioneering 72km run, scramble and climb from O’Reillys to Currumbin Beach.



Bush Bandicoots

A Wild time exploring the natural bushland where participants will be challenged to pay close attention to their surroundings while they find and match items during a nature treasure hunt. We will concentrate on the art of camouflage, through hide and seek style games and explore their creative side through building ant playgrounds and natural mobiles. Run by Journeys in Nature Outdoors this is a free program for children.


Australian Bush Buddies

A fun, educational and interactive program that promotes a greater appreciation of native Australian Wildlife and the need for conservation.

glen Leiper

Glen Leiper - Wild Flowers in Wild Places

Glen Leiper is the co-author of Mangroves to Mountains, a flora bible used by enthusiasts throughout South East Queensland to identify all the weird and wonderful plants found in our beautiful backyard! Join Glen as he shares his knowledge of wild flowers in wild places. 



Dr Michael Meadows - Author of The Living Rock

Delve into the history of first ascents and climbing of the great mountains of the Gondwana Rainforest and the surrounding Scenic Rim with Dr Michael Meadows who wrote the most comprehensive history of climbing in Australia – The Living Rock.

Andrew Bonney

Andrew Bonney - Trail Running Forum - On The Edge Events

With special guests from White Rock Warriors, Andrew Bonney will lead the discussion on all things trail running.


Yellowpinch Circuit Guided Walk

Take a walk through history, as we guide you along the banks of the upper catchments of the Logan River. You will explore the creek system with plenty of opportunities to take a swim in cool, secluded waterholes along the way. Learn about the history and ecology of the area as you rock-hop through volcanic rock formations, coal seams and view ancient, untouched land from a spectacular lookout. This is a free activity.


Water Warriors

Join the water warriors team as they explore the creek system.  Share your creative flare and follow the natural flow of the stream by using natural materials to build river boats.  Dip your toes in and search for the wriggly, slippery creatures that lie below the surface.  As we search amongst the river rocks, we slow down and magnify in on the smaller lives around us and see there’s more going on in the creek than just flowing water.  Run by Journeys in Nature Outdoors this is a free program for children.


Bush Tucker Guided Walk

Be guided around the gorgeous property of Mt Barney Lodge by Lodge Co-Owner Innes Larkin and discover all the local bush tucker the land provides and a history of its uses. This is a free activity.



It’s time to heat things up and let the flame of curiosity burn bright.  A session filled with embracing the curiosity around fire whilst teaching valuable safety practices.  Through nature games and bush exploration we will learn how to collect the right resources for fire building, how to build a fire and enjoy a fresh cooked healthy toasted treat. Run by Journeys in Nature Outdoors this is a free program for children.


Lucy Stirling

Lucy Stirling is a professional athlete competing for Australia in Sport Climbing and is passionate about the outdoors, climbing sport and inspiring others to reach their goals and pursue their dreams. Lucy will be giving a 15 minute talk, followed by a Q&A on her journey to achieve her Olympic dream!

Open from 2pm til close our bar is located in the beautiful shaded area by Boolamoola Homestead so you can kick back, relax and share some tales, trails and ales all by the live music. With beer from Fortitude Brewing and Wine from Witches Falls Winery you can enjoy the best South East Queensland has to offer.

Run Nation Film Festival

2020 marks the sixth year of The RunNation Film Festival. The festival is an original, inspiring event that is not just about running; it is about the celebration of the human spirit, using running as  medium of story telling.

Harry Hines is a Senior Conservation Officer for Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service. Listen to him share  his stories and research on wild critters gathered from over 20 years working for the QPWS.

Damian Caniglia - Adventure Trek Photography

 Damian has been very fortunate to combine his passion for natural places and photography into a full time career. His work includes photographing in challenging environments across all 7 continents and incredible places such as the jungles of Papua New Guinea, the Nepalese Himalaya, Southern Africa and Antarctica. Join him as he shares tips and tricks for photographing in wild places as well as appropriate gear for challenging expeditions! 


Far Outdoors

Teresa Cause is hosting an open discussion on our eco-responsibility when purchasing gear. How we can understand the process of how our gear is made and how to repair and reuse our gear so we can get the most life out it.


Jacqui Bell

Ultra Marathon Runner, Inspirational Speaker and Mental Health Ambassador. Conquering 1000km’s across some of the harshest deserts and terrain in the world from the hottest desert in Africa to the Coldest in Antarctica. In 2019 she became The Youngest Person in History to run an Ultra Marathon on all 7 continents. Jacqui shares stories of adventures and shows how anything is possible when you put your mind to it.


Griffith Uni - Bushfire Stories Project

Griffith University researchers A/Prof Karine Dupre and Dr Margaride Abreu Novais will host a presentation on the Queensland Government Funded project. Fire memories: gathering stories about the fire impacts and responses to build resilience based on the first hand experiences of those affected by the 2019-2020 bushfires in Southeast Queensland. The presentation will be followed by a workshop for the community with various reflections aimed at enhancing social learning with the goal of developing guidelines to enhance preparedness, resilience and recovery.



QUT Cliffhangers

Issy Jukes hosts a forum with QUT Cliff Hangers for all things Rock Climbing.


NZAC Trips and Courses

With Mark Bellamy and Lucas Dubinski. 
Mark Bellamy is an amateur climber, photographer and father. Lucas Dubinski’s friends describe him as a professional sufferer. Join them as their share their tales of Adventures in New Zealand. 



K2 Basecamp Demo - Survival Gear & Winter Layering

K2 Basecamp staff share their tips and tricks for Survival in the outdoors. They will run you through the modern communication devices, PLB’s, Sat Phones, Mobile Phones? How do they work and are they worth it? Come along for this hands on demo for things emergency response.

K2 Staff share the latest in hard shell technology, and discuss Synthetic VS Wool what works best for those winter months? Supporting heat adjusted Queenslanders how to survive in those colder climates.


Sole Searcher Adventures

Joel Hillier shares his key learnings from many solo trail running missions during his travels around the world.


The Dawn Light

Open The Dawn Light is an exciting new Soul/Jazz/Latin project by Angela Iimura & oj Newcomb which also features highly acclaimed musicians Charles Wall on drums and Brodie Graham on guitar.


The Agave Blues

The Agave Blues,are  two blue bartenders from Brisbane trying to prove that a bottle of tequila and a guitar can solve all your problems. Offering folk/blues twists on your favourite songs, as well as some freshly distilled originals for your enjoyment.

Nigel Stephens

Local acoustic folk rock artist Nigel Stephens has had a passion for live music since he started playing 30 years ago. With influences such as Paul Kelly, Bob Dylan and Neil Young he has developed his own raw acoustic style combining guitar, vocals and harmonica.


Laura Frank

Making waves on the Country Music scene is rising singer-songwriter Laura Frank. Powerful and edgy, delivering lyrics with bravado proves that Frank is offering a refreshing presence on the country music scene. Laura has shared the stage with the likes of Sarah McLeod of The Superjesus, Chocolate Starfish, country artist Jade Holland and busker turned superstar, Tones and I. Along with performances at Tamworth Country Music Festival and Brisbane’s BigSound, Frank has proven she is a force to be reckoned with combining true story telling with edgy, gritty lyrics that meld into a solid pop/rock production.




Our cosy and rustic cabins come complete with a self-contained kitchen, an outdoor area with gas BBQ and traditional veranda with view of Mt Barney. The Foresters Hut sleeps up to 10, while the  Henrys Hut can accommodate up to 7 guests.



Once you visit the Mt Barney Lodge campsite you’ll be sure to agree that it is one of the best camping spots in Queensland. Where else can you drive directly onto a grassed and shaded campsite with campfire facilities, creek frontage, a swimming hole and stunning mountain views.


Our Queenslander Homesteads are a ‘home away from home’. Featuring a self-contained kitchen and verandah with view of the surrounding mountains – the whole house is yours to enjoy. Moringararah sleeps from 4-15, while Boolamoola caters for 4-6 guests.
