Have you ever accidentally run into someone? Someone who was meant to be in your life,someone who makes everything better? It’s amazing how life’s unexpected moments can lead to the most beautiful connections. Sometimes, when you least expect it.
This story starts with the accidental meeting of Heather and Courtney, the founders of Rooted Designs Jewellery. Their paths first crossed at a community gathering in New South Wales, and it was just a brief meeting, but it set the stage for an incredible friendship.
As the world hunkered down during the Covid-19 lockdowns, Heather and Courtney lost touch. As soon as the borders opened, each of these women set off, independently, into the Australian outback to go exploring. In a mind-blowing and remarkable twist of fate, Courtney and Heather found themselves together again, at a remote highway turnoff in the Northern Territory. Neither of them knew the other would be there, they simply bumped into each other!
From that day on, they have adventured across this beautiful country, far and wide. From Darwin, to the Blue Mountains to Cape York and many beautiful stops in between. The Australian landscape and all she holds inspires them.

It was while traversing our beautiful country that Rooted Designs Jewellery was born. Heather and Courtney wanted to encapsulate the essence of the land to create simple, yet elegant wearable art. So often there are beautiful gems of nature right under our feet (literally!), and they wanted to magnify that. Each piece of their collection is not just a ‘seed’, it is a narrative, a slice of the enchanting Australian bush, crafted with love and imbued with more stories.
Fast forward to 2024 and how Mt Barney Lodge became involved. At Woodford Folk Festival, Tracey noticed someone wearing very unique and attractive seedpod earrings and was pleased to find that they had come from an onsite stall. Even more exciting was discovering that the range of jewellery included the favourite food of our iconic Glossy Black Cockatoo – the casuarina seed pod. The high quality of this hand-crafted jewellery (which includes silver findings) and the authentic eco character meant that stocking these one-of-a-kind items at Mt Barney Lodge was a must-have.

And the story continues, from the ‘bumping into’ (and the second!) of Heather and Courtney, to the ‘bumping into’ with Tracey to you ‘bumping into’ this blog, there is a ongoing story you are now a part of. More than anything else, this unfolding story is a reminder that the most unexpected paths can lead to the most extraordinary destinations.
