When Bluey goes “Camping” in Season 1 – EPISODE 43 – the shapes of the mountains are unmistakably those of Mt Barney (the most impressive-looking mountain peak in Queensland), and Mt Maroon.
If you are a fan of Bluey, you’ll know that this iconic and internationally regarded animated ABC TV series is based in Brisbane (Queenslland, Australia!!), and draws an it’s surrounds for content and inspiration. Bluey follows the adventures of a lovable & inexhaustible six-year-old puppy, who along with her sister Bingo, parents and friends is learning all about the world.
In this episode Bluey goes on a bish camping trip – and without a doubt it is to Mt Barney Lodge!!
We now have a new and exclusive campsite called Volcano View which is dog-friendly. See the end of this blog for more details.
Mt Barney Lodge is the closest campground to Mt Barney, with direct views of both mountains from the campground.
The whole campground has creek frontage – a crystal clear water course with rounded granite boulders that have tumbled down from the 24 million year old mountain. The creek is actually the Logan River, but as it begins at Mt Barney, the pristine water supports an array of water life, including platypus, turtles, native fish, frogs (lookout for the gold Stony Creek Frog that sits on the rocks at night in the right season), and many weird and wonderful water bugs that make netting fun for little kids.
Then when you compare other landmarks and experiences at Mt Barney Lodge the scenes in the episode are very recognisable!!

And the campground stars and mountain silhouette at night:
Our creek frontage has great views of the mountains, but also alot of shady trees – perfect for summer paddling!
Mt Barney Lodge is an Advanced Ecotourism retreat that has been operating as an accommodation venue and campground for over 30 years. Many kids have had their very first camping experience here, and their memories were so vivid, that they grow up and bring out their kids too – just like Bluey!!
It is wonderful to see generation after generation enjoying camping at Mt Barney Lodge.
As Mt Barney is less than 2 hours drive from Brisbane and the Gold Coast, it makes sense that that Bluey would visit here for a bush camp!
While dogs are not allowed in National Parks, the experience and views from Volcano View campsite are a close second!
